According to reports from People and Extra, the couple was allegedly killed by Nick, who has a documented history of severe substance abuse. Nick, born September 14, 1993, began struggling with drug addiction in his early teens, entering his first rehab at age 15 and enduring approximately 17 stints in treatment facilities. He experienced extended periods of homelessness in states including Maine, New Jersey, and Texas, despite his family’s prominence.

In 2015, Nick co-wrote the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, directed by his father, Rob Reiner, which drew from his personal battles with addiction.
