Each special focuses on different characters, exploring their unique journeys in the magical land of Ooo and beyond. “BMO” follows the lovable robot BMO on a cosmic adventure to save a space station. “Obsidian” delves into Marceline and Princess Bubblegum’s past and present as they confront a fiery threat in the Glass Kingdom. “Wizard City” tracks Peppermint Butler’s quest to master magic at a mystical school, uncovering dark secrets. Finally, “Together Again” reunites Finn and Jake for an emotional adventure in the afterlife, grappling with life, death, and their unbreakable bond.
Adventure Time: Distant Lands Review (S1:E2 – Obsidian)
Quirky and gently leaning into postmodern absurdity, Adventure Time: Distant Lands is a show that only a fan could love. Having never seen a single episode of this mini-series’s parent program, I found myself unable to connect to the characters or ease my way into its particular brand of relatively mellow zaniness.
PARENTAL NOTES
Do You Like Me? Check Yes or No
- This particular episode is full of relationship themes, ranging from angsty teen break-up songs to adult women in a romantic relationship sharing a bed and exchanging romantic kisses.
- It is 80% relationship drama.
Gonna Get A Pack of Cigarettes
- The main character’s mother abandons her in an emotional flashback.
Blue Moon
- Anthropomorphic people made of glass spend an entire scene revealing hidden cracks in their “flesh.”
- One of them is a crack in an anatomically correct butt.
- A shirtless guy in a towel, who just got out of the shower, shows up, and his towel blows off off-screen. We see the towel floating in the air, but not him.
- We see a flashback of the vampire demon singing at a rock concert. She takes her shirt off to throw it at a fan and is left wearing a bright red bra.
Demons
- The main character is half-vampire, half-demon. Yet another children’s program that tries to mainstream and dismiss demons.
WOKE REPORT
Legacy Lesbians
- Apparently, the same sex attraction was hinted at throughout the original Adventure Time series (TV-PG), but two of the main female characters end up in a relationship in the finale. This episode of Distant Lands is entirely about their relationship.
- In one scene, we see them sleeping in bed together.
- They romantically kiss more than once.
