The first season of Andor follows Cassian Andor, a thief and scavenger on the fringes of society, as he becomes entangled in the early sparks of the Rebel Alliance against the oppressive Galactic Empire. Set five years before Rogue One, the series traces Cassian’s journey from a cynical opportunist to a committed revolutionary, exploring his covert missions, alliances with rebels like Luthen Rael and Mon Mothma, and encounters with Imperial forces. Through gritty heists, political intrigue, and personal sacrifices, the season depicts the harsh realities of rebellion and the moral complexities of fighting tyranny, culminating in Cassian’s growing resolve to join the larger fight.

I tried to watch the first season, and beyond being painfully slow, I couldn’t get passed the obvious diversity casting. All it does is remind me of the blatantly racist ideological assumptions at work in the writers, producers, casting directors, and everyone else who worked on this show. So many conservative voices are praising it, even claiming it a masterpiece. That’s absurd. It is propaganda overlayed with expensive production and moderately decent, if not uneven, acting performances. I had to turn it off as it felt manufactured and inhuman. If art does not reflect reality, it cannot be art. It becomes a sterile, state-sanctioned art with no heart, beauty or truth. It is a lie masquerading as truth, and it is galling to my spirit and reminds me of how much we lost. I am also distraught to see how many have been duped by it as that reveals how indoctrinated we’ve become.
