Paddington in Peru follows Paddington Brown as he returns to his homeland, embarking on an adventure filled with heartwarming encounters and new challenges. Along the way, he reconnects with old friends and explores breathtaking Peruvian landscapes while maintaining his characteristic blend of mishap and kindness.

Paddington In Peru Review

Paddington has been around for quite some time but has never quite managed to reach the fame and ubiquity of Winnie the Pooh, at least not in America. Yet, with two relatively successful films (both critically and financially) under his belt, the Peruvian bear with an English accent has spent the last decade swimming in marmalade.

No one should go into a movie like Paddington In Peru expecting Jacob’s Ladder. However, a level of complexity is needed to transcend the mundane and please audiences across the age spectrum. Family films like The Incredibles and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory have this, and it’s why many consider them to be classics.

This third entry may not reach the heights of Machu Picchu, but it is an easily digestible bit of family fluff. It is filled with top performers like Antonio Banderas, who understand the material and do their best to play to the little ones without talking down to them. Regrettably, the script doesn’t help as it is somewhat unfocused and slightly overlong, with a core message lacking quite enough depth or stakes that feel high enough to raise it up beyond forgettable.

That said, Paddington In Peru is a cute film with a cute bear and several cute situations. 11-year-olds and under will like it, and those older will tolerate it. Just be under no illusions; it’s two hours of empty calories.
