Your Friend, Nate Bargatze Review
Nate Bargatze may have come from humble beginnings, but no one can deny that the king of clean comedy’s star has risen impressively high in the last handful of years. Not only has the last decade seen him surpass other clean comics like Brian Regan and Jim Gaffigan (some of his earlier stuff wasn’t as clean) in name recognition and crowd size, but the one-time meter reader from Nashville, TN, has absolutely exploded into the mainstream comedy culture garnering rock star-sized crowds that rival those of far more established names like Chappell and Seinfeld.
Your Friend, while it doesn’t provide many gutbusters, is solidly funny without a break. True to form, Bargatze effortlessly takes the audience on a pleasant comedic ride. However, where some other A-lister comedians like Dave Chappelle might take you on a thrilling comedic rollercoaster, this jocular journey with Bargatze feels more like the Universal Studios backlot sightseeing tour. It never stops, and everything that is on display is interesting, as are the insights and behind-the-scenes information given, but as great as it might be to see the Back to the Future Clocktower in person and to learn that it was originally built for the 1948 movie “An Act of Murder,” it doesn’t exactly get the heart pumping.
It’s almost as if Bargatze’s anecdotes are the slightly less humorous observations made from stories from which he’s already mined the A material. Still, left to a master, even the B-roll is better than almost anything else out there. The end result is a comedy special that will have you laughing non-stop, just not one with peaks and valleys.

Nate won’t take stands on sides of anything but sometimes you just need a break and he does that well.

Dude’s a comic LEGEND. Him, Brian Regan, and Ryan Hamilton are my all time clean comic favorites!
